I don't specialize in Disney Destinations because I took classes or studied books. It’s because I truly have a passion for Disney. I take my own personal vacations to Disney Destinations and have been to them 50+ times.

Disney Genie

Disney has introduced a new system within My Disney Experience to help plan your day in a way that is completely catered to you and your family.  This system is called Disney Genie.  Within your My Disney Experience account, click on My Disney Genie Day, then click on "Get Started". Disney Genie will ask you some simple questions about what you hope to accomplish for each park and then make suggestions based on those answers.  This can be done in advance of your vacation or during your trip. Upon your arrival at the Disney Parks, Disney Genie will create a suggested itinerary for you based on current attraction wait times and show times. Disney Genie is a complimentary service. With this option, you will visit each attraction by waiting in the "Standby Line".

You can take Disney Genie to the next level by purchasing Disney Genie+. Disney Genie+ allows you to bypass the "Standby Line" queue by using the "Lightning Lane". You'll be able to make better use of your day by spending less time standing in lines for the attractions. You can book Genie+ through My Disney Experience at 7:00am Eastern time on the day of your park visit. Pricing is seasonal and will fluctuate - even from one day to the next. The cost is anywhere from $15.00 - $30.00 per person, per day and can be purchased as a single park OR a multi-park option if you have added the Park Hopper option to your theme park tickets. There is no limit on how many times you can use the Lightning Lanes for the various attractions. But you can only book one attraction at a time and only once per attraction.  This service will NOT sell out.

While it's ideal to have this service at all four Walt Disney World theme parks, I recommend using Disney Genie+ for the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios at the very least.

The most popular attractions in the Disney Parks can also be booked as an "Individual Lightning Lane" that can be added starting at 7:00am Eastern time on the day of your visit. You are essentially paying a little more money to join the Lightning Lane for these top attractions. Prices range from $9-15 per attraction, per person.  You are only allotted a maximum of 2 attractions from this category per person, per day and this service can sell out. You do not have to book Disney Genie+ in order to book an Individual Lightning Lane but these two options can be combined to make the most of your time. Note that these Individual Lightning Lane attractions can literally sell out in a matter of seconds. They are often sold out at 7:01am. So you have to be quick!

Individual Lightning Lanes are available for the following attractions:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train - Magic Kingdom

  • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure - Epcot

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Avatar: Flight of Passage – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Expedition Everest – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I recommend using Individual Lightning Lanes for the following attractions:

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

  • Avatar: Flight of Passage

  • Remy's Ratatouille Adventure

  • Star Wars:Rise of the Resistance

Of course, the Standby Line does exist for all attractions (with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind - more on that later) and show on property, so if you don't feeling like paying extra, you always have the option to wait in that line.
